‘Affiliate Highlights’ Highlight: The Winnipeg Chapter

Our newly released Annual Report 2011-2012 features highlights from our affiliates across the country. In the coming days we will be featuring each of them on our blog, starting with the amazing Winnipeg Chapter.

This past year, the Winnipeg, MB Chapter happily helped out at the 12th and final annual charity golf tournament hosted by the Wogemouth family. The 2011 Wogie Invitational was held on August 18th at The Links at Quarry Oak in Steinbach, MB. Proceeds went to the Tourette Syndrome Service at St. Boniface Hospital, the Winnipeg Chapter, and the Youth Scholarship Fund at the National Office. It is with much gratitude that the Chapter thanks the Wogemuth family for their many years of devoted fundraising for the TS community.  In addition to helping out with this local fundraiser, the Winnipeg Chapter also participated in the fourth annual Trek for Tourette. In April, the chapter held a volunteer appreciation evening where 5 volunteers were presented with awards in acknowledgement of their outstanding contributions. After taking a pause in the summer months (with the exception of their annual summer BBQ), the Chapter resumed its monthly meetings. In September, the Chapter hosted a video presentation of “Leaky Brakes – What They Are and What They Aren’t” and a corresponding information session in partnership with the Tourette Syndrome Service from St. Boniface Hospital. In place of their December support meeting, they held their annual holiday dinner get together. More recently, Chapter members got together to enjoy a baseball after receiving complimentary tickets from the Winnipeg Goldeyes. The Chapter continues to supply complimentary copies of “Understanding Tourette Syndrome: A Handbook for Families” to all newly diagnosed families in the area with the help of the Tourette Syndrome Service who give out the handbooks as needed.
